READ
Colossians 2:8-10
8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
The error Paul referred to is not just believing in philosophy (the love of wisdom), but that which originates with human reasoning rather than divine revelation. It may sound impressive, but if it is not in line with divine revelation in the Bible, it will only be “high-sounding nonsense.” Again Paul emphasized that all the fullness of God existed in Jesus when He was on earth.
REFLECT
Can you think of things you have been taught that are contrary to what the Bible teaches? Which did you decide to believe?
RESPOND
An example of human reasoning versus divine revelation is seen in the debate about the origin of the universe. No one was there to be an eyewitness so one must believe by faith what is said by human reasoning or divine revelation. In this regard, read Genesis 1:1 and Hebrews 11:1-3 to read of divine revelation.
