READ
Colossians 2:11-12
11 When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
Paul was writing to Gentiles and reminded them that just as the Jews had circumcision, they also had one. It was not of the flesh, however, but of the cutting away of the body of flesh, the sinful nature. Paul refers to believers taking part with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection, as he wrote about elsewhere.
REFLECT
Do you realize that by trusting in Jesus as your Savior you actually took part in Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection? Just as Jesus rose to new life so have you as you trusted in Him as Savior.
RESPOND
With your disciple, read Romans 2:28-29 that tells what true circumcision was intended to be. Read also Romans 6:5-11 where Paul wrote about the believers’ death with Jesus and the resurrection to new life. Believers are to consider themselves to be “dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.” Talk about this with your friend.
