Colossians 2:18-19
18 Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels, saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud, 19 and they are not connected to Christ, the head of the body. For he holds the whole body together with its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God nourishes it.
Paul told believers not to let others who are in secret societies condemn them. Gnostics of the time and organizations of today take pride in their secret knowledge and ceremonies. Paul said that such groups are not connected to the head of the Church, the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul used the analogy of the human body to say all spiritual nourishment comes from Jesus, not secret societies.
REFLECT
Have you been approached to belong to a secret society? Would that be your master or the Lord Jesus? Matthew 6:24 says you cannot serve two masters. Each person must choose which master to serve.
RESPOND
Some think God is so awesome they cannot approach Him directly and must go through intermediaries. Read 1 Timothy 2:5 to see that Jesus is the only mediator needed. Because of this, rejoice in what is said in Hebrews 4:16 urging you to come boldly to the throne of God.
