READ
Colossians 3:1-2
1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
“Since” has the meaning of “because” in this passage. Followers of Jesus need to focus on eternal realities rather than on earthly things. This puts one’s attention on the Lord Jesus who sits in the place of honor at the heavenly Father’s right hand. In turbulent times on earth, it comforts one to know that God is in ultimate control of the universe.
REFLECT
Does it calm your spirit as you read the Scriptures and focus on what Jesus has done for you?
In difficult times, does it help you to think about eternal matters rather than earthly ones?
RESPOND
This passage says Jesus sits in the place of honor at the right hand of the Father. With your friend, read Ephesians 2:5-7 that says believers in Jesus have the position of being seated with Jesus. This refers to the believer’s position while the practice on earth may be different.
