READ
Colossians 3:7-9
7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
Paul referred to the unsaved person as being a “part of this world.” Even though believers practiced such things as unbelievers, they now are to get rid of many things. Notice Paul’s emphasis on one’s walk and his talk. Believers in Jesus are considered to “have stripped off” the old sin nature. The Christ-follower is to put off some things of the past and put on others. This passage reveals what should be put off.
REFLECT
How are you doing in putting off these things of the past? Do others see a difference in your lifestyle and speech?
RESPOND
Along with these instructions in Colossians 3, read Ephesians 4:25-32 to see how believers are to live.
