READ
Colossians 3:12-13
12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Paul continued his analogy to putting on items of spiritual clothing. The believer in Christ should put on “tenderhearted mercy,” and reveal “kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” The Christ-follower is to overlook the faults of others and to be forgiving of them just as Jesus has forgiven His followers. Those who don’t forgive neglect all that Christ has forgiven them.
REFLECT
Think of each of these characteristics and consider if others are seeing these in you. Promise yourself to be more forgiving of others because of how much Jesus has forgiven you.
RESPOND
With your friend, read other passages that relate to what Paul wrote in this passage. Read Matthew 6:14-15 that follows the Lord’s Prayer. Read also Ephesians 4:30-32. Notice one can grieve the Holy Spirit by not living as instructed.
