READ
Colossians 3:24-25
24 Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. 25 But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.
Paul reminded Christian slaves who their true master is—the Lord Jesus Christ. It will be from Him they will receive their rewards for how they have lived. Paul warned them, however, about not doing what is wrong. Notice Paul’s statement: “God has no favorites.” This also answers those who think they can make it to heaven because they are not as bad as other people. Only those who trust in Jesus as Savior will make it to heaven.
REFLECT
Consider that as a believer your true reward is not what you receive on earth but what you will receive in heaven. No earthly inheritance can compare to that.
RESPOND
With your disciple, read and think about what Paul said about believers being rewarded at the judgment seat of Christ. This is not a place of condemnation but of reward. The passage is 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 that tells about believers being rewarded for the quality of their work for the Lord Jesus in building on the lives of others. Salvation is decided on earth; rewards are received in heaven.
