The Land of Wickedness
READ
Malachi 1:4-5
4 Esau’s descendants in Edom may say, “We have been shattered, but we will rebuild the ruins.” But the LORD of Heaven’s Armies replies, “They may try to rebuild, but I will demolish them again. Their country will be known as ‘The Land of Wickedness,’ and their people will be called ‘The People with Whom the LORD Is Forever Angry.’ 5 When you see the destruction for yourselves, you will say, ‘Truly, the LORD’s greatness reaches far beyond Israel’s borders!’”
God chose Jacob and the nation of Israel was the result. From Esau came Edom. The Edomites were enemies of the Israelites and refused to let them pass through their country on their way to the Promised Land. Because of this, God pronounced judgment on the Edomites. The animosity between Esau and Jacob continued down through the generations.
REFLECT
What was it like for your ancestors? Were most of them Christ-followers? How sad if most were Christ rejecters. Be sure your devotion to the Lord Jesus is an example to those who come after you.
RESPOND
For background of the conflict between Jacob and Esau and their descendants, read Genesis 25:27-34 and Numbers 20:14-18.
