A Heavenly Warning
READ
Malachi 2:3-4
3 “I will punish your descendants and splatter your faces with the manure from your festival sacrifices, and I will throw you on the manure pile. 4 Then at last you will know it was I who sent you this warning so that my covenant with the Levites can continue,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
God continued to tell the priests what He would do to them because of their contempt for Him. The purpose of God’s discipline was so His “covenant with the Levites” could continue. When God brings judgments on the world it is often to let people know that He is God and beside Him there is no other.
REFLECT
Do you pray that the difficult circumstances in the world and in people’s lives will cause them to realize that God is in ultimate control? Do you pray that they will turn to Him as a result?
RESPOND
Read Exodus 10:1-2 to learn that even God’s judgments on Egypt were so they would know He is LORD, that is, that He is Jehovah. For background of the name of God known as YHWH or Jehovah, read Exodus 3:14-15. This is God’s response to Moses when He was asked by what name he would tell his fellow Israelites who would enable them to be released from Egypt.
