Life and Peace
READ
Malachi 2:5-6
5 “The purpose of my covenant with the Levites was to bring life and peace, and that is what I gave them. This required reverence from them, and they greatly revered me and stood in awe of my name. 6 They passed on to the people the truth of the instructions they received from me. They did not lie or cheat; they walked with me, living good and righteous lives, and they turned many from lives of sin.”
God revealed the purpose of His covenant with the Levites who were the priestly line. In this passage God tells of the beginning of this agreement and how the Levites honored Him. Many good things are said of the Levites and how they revered God and turned others from a life of sin. These are great words of commendation but a change in the comments come as one reads on in the second chapter of Malachi.
REFLECT
Do you honor God now as you did when you first trusted in Jesus as Savior? Could the good comments said about you then be said about you now?
RESPOND
Read Revelation 2:1-4 to see what Jesus said to the church in Ephesus about their beginning in contrast to what they were like when He told them these words. Talk with a Christian friend and pray that you both will be able to demonstrate your love for Jesus as you did when you were first saved.
