Corrupted Covenant
READ
Malachi 2:7-8
7 “The words of a priest’s lips should preserve knowledge of God, and people should go to him for instruction, for the priest is the messenger of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. 8 But you priests have left God’s paths. Your instructions have caused many to stumble into sin. You have corrupted the covenant I made with the Levites,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
In this passage, God declares what the religious leaders were supposed to be and do. Others were to be able to come to them for instruction. Instead, these leaders had “caused many to stumble into sin.” God’s agreement with the Levites was intended for good, but these leaders had corrupted it. This is a sad commentary about what these leaders had done.
REFLECT
Have you been disappointed with some religious leader? If so, has this taught you to fix your eyes on Jesus rather than on a human leader?
RESPOND
Read Numbers 3:1-4 to see a specific mention of two Levites who disgraced the Lord before the people. God is holy and this should serve as a lesson to all who represent Him to others.
