Purifying and Refining
READ
Malachi 3:2-3
2 “But who will be able to endure it when he comes? Who will be able to stand and face him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes. 3 He will sit like a refiner of silver, burning away the dross. He will purify the Levites, refining them like gold and silver, so that they may once again offer acceptable sacrifices to the LORD.”
For those not taking God seriously and practicing what is right, they will not be able to stand before the Lord Jesus when He comes. This passage uses known metallic practices to symbolize what His judgment will be like. The Levites had not been serving God with pure hearts, but the day will come when Jesus “will purify the Levites.” Then they will offer “acceptable sacrifices” rather than what they were offering in the time of Malachi.
REFLECT
Have you thought about how serious it will be when unbelievers meet Jesus face to face?
RESPOND
Read Revelation 19:11-16 to see how the apostle John described the return of Jesus at His second advent to earth. Just as He spoke creation into existence, He will be able to speak armies out of existence.
