What's the Use
READ
Malachi 3:13-15
13 “You have said terrible things about me,” says the LORD. “But you say, ‘What do you mean? What have we said against you?’ 14 You have said, ‘What’s the use of serving God? What have we gained by obeying his commands or by trying to show the LORD of Heaven’s Armies that we are sorry for our sins? 15 From now on we will call the arrogant blessed. For those who do evil get rich, and those who dare God to punish them suffer no harm.’”
Notice it is a terrible thing to question the worth of serving God. Some look around them and see the unrighteous flourishing and question what God is doing for believers. Not only was this true of some Israelites during Old Testament time, but it has also been true of some during New Testament times. The book of Hebrews warns people not to give up and reminds them there is no other sacrifice for sins except Jesus.
REFLECT
Are you sometimes discouraged and wonder if serving Jesus is worth it? Does this indicate you have only this world in view and not the world to come? Only in the Lord Jesus can you find forgiveness of sin and eternal life.
RESPOND
Read carefully Hebrews 10:11-13 to see that the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins was a once-for-all sacrifice. It never needs to be done again, and there is no other sacrifice for sin. This makes serving Jesus worth everything in this world and beyond.
