'It’s Like a War Zone’: Jamaica’s Churches After Hurricane Melissa – Interview with Nigel Wilkinson

When Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica as a Category 5 storm, it devastated homes, churches, and entire communities. In this powerful conversation, Arnie Cole speaks with Nigel Wilkinson, Director of Back to the Bible Jamaica, about what he’s witnessing on the ground—and how the Church is fighting to rise again.

Nigel shares stories of families who lost everything, pastors who can’t reach their congregations, and rural churches that were completely washed away. With no FEMA, no safety net, and no infrastructure, the Jamaican Church is the shelter, the aid center, and the backbone of the community.

Right now, Back to the Bible Jamaica needs a Starlink system and small solar generator to re-establish communication and get Bible broadcasts back on the air. It’s a small cost with huge impact.

Don’t look away. Hope begins when we choose to see—and to act.

STEP 1 - RECEIVE

(Receive God's Word and Grow in Bible Knowledge)

Miracles don't happen every day. And miracles accompanied by a choir of angels are even more rare! We'll follow along with Luke as he describes the birth of Jesus and be reminded that this was a miracle so important, it would define the way we would look at history to this very day.

STEP 2 - REFLECT

(How does this Scripture Apply to your life?)

Self-control is not a very popular topic because it often means denying ourselves the things that we like. While we may know deep down that losing all restraint can't be good, it's hard to understand why. Kelsey is here to help us see how a little self-control goes a long ways. And we'll get some wisdom from the Bible that will help keep the walls of our life strong.

STEP 3 - RESPOND

(How will you Win Today?)

There will always be things in life that make us angry, and in some situations, that is the proper response. However, what we do with our anger matters. Coach Jon Winkelman explains this with a tale about a trumpet, a violin, and self-control.

Self-control is possible and you can win today over anger. How? By living at peace with others and trusting God to take care of any vengeance.

STEP 4 - REVEAL

(How will you reveal Jesus to others today through praying and sharing?)

Nat leads us in prayer today as we remember God's promise to work all things together for good.
