The day after celebrating our nation’s birthday, many of us feel a deep ache. We love this country, but we see the slipping—culturally, morally, and spiritually—and we wonder what our generation of mature believers is called to do about it.
Here’s one sobering reality from our research: Only 3 out of 10 American Christians are actively helping someone else follow Jesus. We are not yet the discipling people Scripture calls us to be — and this gap is part of why our nation feels like it’s slipping.
Would you take a brief, anonymous Spiritual Honesty Check-Up? It takes about 4 minutes. Your answers will be reported only in aggregate and will help us document real patterns behind the discipleship crisis in America. Take the 4-minute check-up: https://bttb.org/spiritual-honesty
Those of us who have walked with Christ the longest carry something the next generation needs, and we won't be here forever to hand it off. That's part of what makes this moment urgent.
We’ve been asked, based on our extensive research, to produce a documentary on the discipleship crisis in America. This short six-part docuseries honestly documents this crisis—through real stories, data, and hard truths.
The Hidden Barrier No One’s Measuring
One major reason we in America are not discipling more is spiritual self-deception. I’ve seen this in my own life more times than I care to admit. Early in ministry I was fired from my first paid position and told I was on a blacklist so no ministry would ever hire me again. Later, when I was seriously sick, I became convinced God was finished with me. There have been many other seasons too so I know how easy it is to quietly convince myself that my hesitation is self-defense. But all I’m doing is “defending” myself from declaring God’s truth, and the opportunity to invest in others.
That's why I'm asking for your help.
You don't want comfortable excuses. You've voiced real concern about where America is heading, and you carry decades of walking with Jesus. That places you in a unique position to be part of the answer — if you're willing to be honest with yourself first.
This 20-question spiritual check-up does two things at once: your honest, anonymous aggregated answers help us show the true state of the Church, and the questions themselves will give you a candid, eye-opening look at your own walk with Christ.
Please click https://bttb.org/spiritual-honesty to take the brief survey and join the conversation.
A few honest minutes from you could help turn awareness into action. This isn't about shame — it's about legacy. It's about stepping into the best chapter yet, where our honesty becomes part of God's answer for the Church and for our land.
Will you pray about adding your voice? I'm grateful to walk this road with you.
In hope for renewal,

P.S. If you know another mature believer who cares deeply about the future of the Church and would be willing to take this survey honestly, please forward this blog to them. Their voice is needed, too.
